Heather's

The Replacements

Pros on strike. Everyday guys get to play.

Keanu sure does do a lot of football quarterback characters (Point Break, Brotherhood of Justice) for someone who likes hockey! Just to add to the famously bad "quarterback punk" names, Keanu plays a character named Shane "Footsteps" Falco. I've seen the crazy sideways running he does in the commercials (of which I've seen many!) -- is that why he has that nickname? Anyway, this movie appears to have many of the same feelings as Point Break (dedication to his job) and Chain Reaction (the hairdo).

Listening at the website I believe there may be a character (a cheerleader prehaps) named Heather. I'm especially excited about that.

I thought I'd leave my previewing feelings of movie there because it's interesting. The Replacements opened in North America on August 11th, 2000. I saw it that evening after a long day as councellor at summer camp. Despite my being tired and it being 10 at night I managed to thoroughly enjoy this excellent film. I haven't laughed and cheered so much during a movie in a long time and it feels so good. I can tell that this will be one of those Keanu movies that enjoy watching repeatedly because it makes me feel so good--warm and fuzzy. Only Flying has made me feel just as good.
The cheerleader named Heather is hillarious, though I'm embarrassed to share her name! (She's a really big airhead).
So, Keanu plays Shane "Footsteps" Falco a "retired" quarterback who screwed up at The Sugarbowl a few years back, loosing badly and ruinning his reputation as a good player. When the Washington Sentinels go on strike with 4 games left in the season, replacement "scab" players are hired along with coach Jimmy McGinty (Gene Hackman). All the talent is there; they just have to learn to listen to each other. A second chance to once hopefulls. It sounds rather Disney, but it's just good, laughable fun. I just wish I knew more about football!

Quotes

Keanu Quotes:

"I should say something classy and inspirational but that just wouldn't be our style."
"We're in a huddle! I'm the quarterback! No one talks in the huddle except me! If you have something to say you raise your hand." ["What if we're injured or feeling sick or something?" -Fumiko] "Then you tell me before the huddle."
"Pain heals, chicks dig scars and glory lasts forever."
"Danny! Remember what I told you about red shirts during practice?" ["Yeah...?" Jon Favreau as Daniel Bateman] "Well forget about that."

Others:

"Keep putting on that yam." [Brooke Langton as Annabelle]

The BEST things about this movie:

-Keanu looks amazing (as usual) and the role really suits him well.
-The underwater football scene.
-The Welsh guy! ("He's whier'd"), the gangster guy, the ex-cop who acts like a giant killing machine and all the other crazy characters..
-The way the good guys kick ass though they start out being really pathetic.
-It's a Keanu movie with a character named Heather. =)
